The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has awarded the ₱373-million bid to build, operate, and transfer a complete cloud solution for the Philippine government to the Vibal Group.
DICT officials kicked off the Government Cloud or GovCloud project on February 28, 2017 at the Microtel Hotel, UP Ayala Technohub in Quezon City.
DICT and GovCloud
DICT’s first signature project, GovCloud is a public service cloud infrastructure designed to reduce the cost of government technology solution, boost employee productivity, and improve online services. This project is in accordance with DICT Circular No. 2017-002, which encourages all state departments, offices, and agencies to adopt the Cloud First Policy and take advantage of scalable, on-demand cloud computing that can better serve citizens who have already embraced a digital lifestyle.
GovCloud will use a hybrid cloud strategy that integrates both private and public aspects. The creation of private in-country data center will ensure data security, while the off-premise public cloud will make online information and services readily available to agencies.
Vibal Partner Entities
Vibal has partnered with global technology leaders Amazon Web Services, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Microsoft Azure, Indra Philippines, and Philcox Philippines to realize what is considered as the biggest ICT project in the country to date.
Vibal is one of the country’s key players in technology with core expertise in cloud solution. The integrated education and technology firm has worked with Bureau of Customs (BoC), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), and other private institutions to develop cloud and mobile solutions.
